French Toast Oven Bake

Ingredients:
• Thick-sliced white bread
• 1 cup butter
• 2 cups dark brown sugar (packed)
• 6 eggs
• 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
• 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• Confectioners sugar for sprinkling
• Sliced strawberries and blueberries for serving

  1. Preheat oven to 350º F. Grease the casserole thoroughly. Melt the butter in the saucepan on low-medium heat.

   2. Once butter is melted, add in 1½ cups brown sugar. Stir while simmering for about 2 minutes. Pour this mixture into the casserole dish.

 3. In a small bowl, whisk together 6 eggs, milk, and vanilla. Using the 1 cup measuring cup, mix together the remaining brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Set aside.

  4. Arrange the bread slices to cover the bottom of the casserole. Pour half of egg mixture over the bread and then sprinkle half of the cinnamon and nutmeg
on top.

  5. Repeat this process to add another layer, cover with foil, and place in refrigerator for 20 minutes to let egg soak into the bread.

6. Remove from refrigerator and allow to sit for 10 minutes to remove chill. Then, place in oven (covered) for 30 minutes. 

7. Bake uncovered for another 15 minutes. Remove from oven, top with sugar and berries
